Footlight Players of Michigan City awards a yearly scholarship to a high school senior or recent graduate who wants to continue an education in the performing arts. The “Robert W. Komendera Theatrical Scholarship” was named in honor of its namesake for his 35+ years of dedication to the Footlight Players, Inc. of Michigan City.

The recipient this year is 17 year old Michigan City High School senior, Ashley Sparks. The scholarship is for $1,000.00 funded by donations from theater patrons.

Miss Sparks is a multi-talented performer with experience in acting, student directing, choreography, and is proficient on several musical instruments, including the oboe, clarinet, flute, mellophone, and piano.

Ashley plans to continue her education at Butler University studying Music Education. She dreams of playing in the orchestra pit on Broadway one day, but intends to be a music educator. Her participation with Centerstage Youth Theatre in Michigan City  motivated her to become president of MCHS’s Thespian Society. Footlight Players are proud to offer 2024’s ROBERT W. KOMENDERA THEATRICAL SCHOLARSHIP to Miss Ashley Sparks.
